zinc plating deceleration and aux air valve?
I'm rebuilding an 80 sc engine and was curious if anyone has had the deceleration and aux air valve replated.
If so, who did it for you? I'm not sure what is in these things. Is it metal only or is there a gasket material that wouldn't survive the plating process.. especially the cleaning process. ![]()

I can't specifically answer your question, but I do know that the zinc plating process is completely safe for rubber. I had several parts plated (fuel lines and motor mounts come to mind) with the rubber parts going through the process unphased.

I was curious how the heat and acid during the clearing process might impact whatever is inside these things. I guess I could send them off and test them when I get them back.
I would love to know how they work and what exactly is inside them.

I pop all the rubber out of mounts on a press and then re install them. I wouldn’t want rubber in my chemistry it eventually renders it useless.
7783911 you buy a set up from caswell plating in Rochester NY or I’m sure you can find someone locally, they use environmentally safe chemistry now, no more cadmium |

I've done them and similar items. Just plug and wrap any open ports. I plastidip the ports to seal them completely after plugging them. The plastidip peels off after they are plated. I've also done the same to things like idle air control valves with electrical connectors. Just wrap the electrical connector and plastidip to seal them before plating. I wouldn't reply on a professional plater to do them though. They batch everything and barrel plate a load of things at once. The seals on the ports will definitely get dislodged in a professional setup. You are best of plating delicate things yourself at home.

I've used HE Plating in Scarborough several times. (https://heplating.com)
Have some bits there right now. Paul is very good to deal with. To the OPs question. I've been leery of plating things that are sealed not so much for the rubber bits, but if there is any aluminum inside these regulators, it will be dissolved quite readily. I was going to have a fuel pressure reg and damper plated but decided against it as I wasn't sure what all was inside. Todd
