Replacing O2 Sensor 83 911sc Euro
 

When replacing O2 sensor, I discovered that the pin on the new sensor did not match up with the existing plug. After reading more about the Bosch replacement sensor, I learned that it was a universal type and one need to cut the wire off the old sensor and splice onto the new sensor. Simple enough! I should have stopped there.
While examining the other end of the wire/connector, (not the sensor) I noticed there was a wad of old electrical tape and visible bare wires. Removed the old tape and discovered the green insulated wire with the uninsulated shield around it. A 3-4" jumper wire had been taped to the uninsulated shield wire. The other end of the small jumper wire broke loose while handling it. That end had a small bit of solder on it and a frayed bit of broken wire still attached. The car won't start after hooking up the green wire only. Would the other wire be some sort of ground or where would it attach?

The O2 should have no effect on whether your car starts or not, as there are a number of people who unplug theirs entirely.

Is it really a "one" wire/pin sensor?
As "Universal lambda sensors" from i.E. BOSCH often have at least three pins/wires where two wires (white plus & white minus) are for the sensors heat element.
Simply cutting of the white wires and only using the signal wire wont work on these types of BOSCH universal sensors.
