Cool Seat Upholstery

Since our host only sells seat upholstery in black, I assume that asking about sources for TAN leather seat upholsery sets would not be stepping on anyone's toes. If I am wrong, I appologize, but I am looking for replacement leather front seat upholstery for a 1980 911SC coupe with standard seats. I know that even a "good" price won't be cheap, so quality workmanship is the first priority. How 'bout it fellow Pelicanites, where is the place to go for good workmanship and reasonable price?

Thanks,

Fred Cook

Leather is not cheap. I am from Toronto Ca, and a good friend owns a windshield\upholstery business. Off the top of my head I believe a good leather is roughly(canadian prices) 150.00 per square foot. Prices to vary according on the quality of the leather, but thats a good starting figure. Also, I am not sure about your seat in particular, but, in new vehicles coming off the lot with a leather interior package, only the seat pad covering is actually leather, the rest of the seat is vinyl. It is well worth the cost of having the seat recovered if your budget allows. It will not be a problem to get the exact color match from a reputable uphosltey shop, as their suppliers can order any color you need.

To answer Hetmanns question, yes I have installed the inland imports seat upholstery in the past year in my 1983-911SC with standard seats and am very happy with the fit, quality, look and feel of these kits. For the money they are tough to beat.

Wink GAHH.com

I am looking at recovering my seats - vinyl interior. The auto upholstery place had a catalog for www.gahh.com which specializes in 'German and other fine automobiles'. They have color samples (there are 5 or so leathers that would qualify as Tan) and pricing on their site. Replacement leather for YOUR 1980 SC front seats runs $937.50, sport seats for the 1980 are $1000. German Vinyl is $500

My upholstery guy said that German Vinyl would wear better than leather and MUCH better than Domestic/non-German vinyl - buyer beware on that stuff, it doesn't look like it is even an option at GAHH. There doesn't seem to be a possiblity of getting the embossed insert - although the worlduph site seems to imply it is possible. The eyestrain on their site prevented prolonged viewing! Maybe it is because I am relatively colorblind.

I have had trouble matching the "Cinnamon Leatherette" interior listed on my CARDEX - there are quite a few TANs. None a perfect match.

I sent pictures and a sample to GAHH and they are going to send samples that closely match it. The reason I want to replace this seat is obvious. The passenger side has a rip in the embossed area but most interestingly has the mirror image imprint from a Yokohama tire that I put there for a few weeks!
