Opinions Wanted on a 911...

How does this look?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&category=10156&item=2416006515

I'll try to get out to see it personally on Saturday, but was hoping "those in the know" had some thoughts first.

Thanks,

It looks nice, but you can't beat seeing it in the flesh.

I always worry when sellers appear less than knowledgable about their item. 1995 Porsche C2 Widebody Cab It would make me wonder what else he's ad-libbing about. But, if you're seeing it in the flesh before you commit, then it doesn't matter what he calls it.

I don't know that I'd feel to good about a car with that lacking description offered by someone with an email of XXXTREMEMOTORS@AOL.COM. Smacks of some chop shop dealer selling wrecks. I could be wrong though...

Don't get me wrong, it's probably a fine car, but make sure you crawl all over it (and if possible, get a PPI). It's only semantics, but I'd expect someone to be 100% certain of what it is they're selling.

Maybe he's using the "widebody" moniker in hope of attracting less informed buyers to his C2 Cab or maybe it's just an honest mistake. The only way to know is to go see for yourself. But, take some photos for us...

I called the seller and to my surprise someone answered the phone (remember EST). When I asked about the Porsche on ebay, he responded with "which one?". The dealer is located in a very wealthy town and only a few miles from my mechanic, so a PPI isn't a problem. Asuming the better, what would one expect to pay for a car like this? What should I look for?

Thanks,

Thats what I read in to it as well. Unknown "reserve" is also a strike against it, IMO.

BTW David, don't let mikez's "Tiptronic....chick's car...." get to you . . .at least it has power steering and ABS.

Ignore those other guys. Go and look. If you can, find a few others to look at to give you a feel for what is ok and what is not.

Check my PM also.

Auctions in caps don't do it for me either (the other extreme from a california classix writeup). They've got an 87 cab on auction too. If you check their feedback, they've sold a couple of non-pcars on ebay so who knows ??

If your looking for a 993 tip, it's at least worth a look-see.

edit: forgot to mention that there are a couple of local 993 cabs on autotrader.com and cars.com

There are always exceptions, but for me I wouldn't consider buying a car (especially long distance) from an independent dealer that wasn't a total 911-head. And even then it is a crapshoot. For instance I'd buy one in a heartbeat from MikeZ, but wouldn't ever buy one from a certain independent bay area "porsche specialist" dealer.

Everyone's mileage may vary, but ebay "dealers" with obviously clueless and scant ads scare me waaaay off.

no cup-holders..but it does have the relatively rare optional Porsche phone console. I'm actually in the process of a transaction with the fellow right now. (a much smaller item than a car!) i will let you know how it turns out. max

Anyone here driven a tiptronic? How one can critisize an advanced system like that and then limp off home shifting some 25YO soggy 915 tranny is beyond me.

But yes, automatics are for shielas and hairdressers.

Great car price = tiptronic. Do you really want a slush box in a fine German machine? I didn't think so. (So did the sellers!). Around here 95 with tiptronics are venturing into the 87-89 range.

Having done two national searches for Tiptronic 911s (one 964 and one 993) I'd have to disagree with the "low car price = tiptronic." I only wish it were true! I looked at PCA member cars, cars from local classified ads around the country, highline dealer cars and every other source you can think of, and believe me, nobody is dumping cars with Tiptronic transmissions.

If a Tip 911 is cheap, it is for the same reason that any 911 is cheap--it has issues.

And in all seriousness, if you know of any '95 Tips selling for near '87-89 911 prices, please send me contact info ASAP as I have a friend who is looking and is on a tight budget. Thanks.
