Look at how much ROOM the man has behind the panels. There's no reason 90% of those holes couldn't be flared to increase the rigidity of the panel. You can 3D print dimple dies these days to any size you want. Heck, done right it'll weigh exactly the same as it does now, but be even stronger than before the holes were drilled.

I wanted to hate this build until I watched the video. It's actually really well done. Is it less safe than a stock 911? Yes, but not particularly because of the holes. The main safety issues are there are no seatbelts, or turn signals or side impact door beams.

Richard has only driven it 3 times according to the video. So yeah, on par with riding a motorcycle or maybe a bit less safe as you don't have a helmet on.

Regarding the holes, he says he reinforced the dash, or any area that needed structural reinforcement. You can see evidence of this on the area below the inner strut mount in the frunk where he reinforced the holes with a pipe or a lip.

There's some really cool work done too, like the steel centered steelies riveted to the aluminum outers, and the holes in the wheel widened.

The holes in the center tunnel aren't that detrimental to the overall structural rigidity either, as the side rockers area is effectively the chassis frame rails and that is the core of the 911s structural rigidity, not the center tunnel. Does the tunnel tie in the bottom and create structural rigidity? Of course, but some holes in it aren't going to deter that. Would it fold easier in an accident? You bet your ham sammich.

When they do the tour of the shop you can see that he's a true 911 and 356 enthusiast. That early carrera is siiiiiick.

All in all, extremely well done.

Kind of odd how extreme he got on lightening the body but when it came to the engine he definitely left some weight on the table rrr the car. The 906/911R engine was about a hundred pounds lighter than the standard 911 engine....some of that was mag vs alu case but plenty of other cool tricks he could do to save weight back there like the factory did. Sweet car

Yeah, with the extremes he went to, I'm surprised he didn't use the 66mm NON CW crank. It's ridiculously light. I was trying to think of other engine lightening options, soda filled valves? Mag covers and mag chain boxes, is the 5 blade fan lighter than the 11?

Yes he did mention a mag case but just a street car case. I'm sure with his connections and fund$ he could find an early racing mag case to save weight. It would certainly fit the build.

75 911s - on the 911R and 906 the factory used titanium con rods, magnesium intake manifolds (fiberglass on mfi), lightweight lash cap rockers, lightweight drilled flywheel, drilled centerlube cams, and other things you mentioned minus the 5 blade fan. I think he can drop a few lbs if he really wants just in the engine! More fun than swiss cheesing the entire car
