Does anyone know where this piston is from?

Hello,
Years ago while collecting Porsche 'Stuff' i bought this piston.

I just found it again after searching for another part and was wondering if anyone know what it may have been destined for before it was turned into art?

It's approximately 93mm in diameter and looks to have a '5' hand engrave inside one of the skirts and a crudely drawn '0' inside the other shirt.

Anyway just curious.

Thanks

Frank

Assuming it was originally a piston cast for actual use, what is with the little groove between the two compression ring grooves?

Interesting, do you know any more of their origins? Was it really a piston that the 959 used?
So was it a promotions type thing sold at the dealerships as 'Art'???

I presume the groove was put in there to differentiate it from a QA approved part for install .

These where genuine 959 pistons ( carry over from 935 962 ) , and came from dealerships .
Not sure if they where sold , or giving as gifts .
If you Google it , you’ll find an interesting Sotheby’s auction result from a couple of years ago ….

The latest version porsche has available is a 992 piston phone charger .

It’s an “accumulator groove” . Used to gather oil between the two rings to promote lubrication.

Interesting. Mine has some hand engraving inside of the skirt. On closer inspection looks like an 'E' on one side and an 'O' on the other.

Here's a Mahle 82mm TAG-Porsche Formula 1 piston.
It's from the same era, and of a similar design.

It was made in two pieces, then electron-beam welded together. This created a chamber into which oil was jetted.
The oil inlet is seen in the lower photo, with an outlet on the other side. I suspect yours is similar?

Interesting stuff. Thank you for the info. Mine is approx 93mm dia but I'll look for the extra holes in it when I get home.
Cheers
