Help ID these brakes.

Can anyone tell about these brakes? They came off an 83 SC that was going to be used for an LS swap, but that never happened and the car was “saved”.

Thanks for the help!

Some kind of motorsport Brembo. Slick setup in their day. The surface finish, eight drilled pistons, pad retainer style, and 380mm rotor (18" wheel minimum) all say motorsport. I'm guessing from the general design that it's from about 20 years ago.

The hats and adapters are likely custom. Rotors, who knows.

I'm going to guess the calipers are from some kind of GT racecar from late 90s or early 00s. GT1, early LMP1, JGTC, DTM, something like that. If that caliper requires a 19" wheel, then it's likely a late 90s touring car setup. Eight pistons was pretty rare back then (still uncommon today in motorsport) - they seem too exotic for a team in any slower class. Transam, WRC, open wheel cars from that era all used wheels smaller than 18".

A call to Brembo with pictures and part number might shed more info. You'll need someone familiar with the motorsport catalog though. Not the boy-racer / street catalog.

That said, if you're running that kind of brake on a 911, the spindle/hub assembly is most assuredly under-qualified for whatever lateral load is going through them. Maybe they cut corners elsewhere on the car. If you're re-using those spindles and hubs definitely get them crack-tested (tie rod and ball joint area as well). Or throw them out.

FrenchToast. Thanks for the info. The SC was never driven with the brakes on it, so I think the rest of the suspension will not have suffered from “over braking” the car.
