1978 911 sc serial number

Other than the sticker in the door jam, the tag on the A pillar, and the numbers stamped above the gas tank, is there any other way to identify the last four digits, the production number, from the vin?

Looking at a stripped tub, sticker is long gone along with the A pillar tag, and the stamped numbers in the trunk are worn down. Can make out the first 6, 911820, but the rest are lost cause.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Not sure about the SCs, but on the older cars there is a production number stamped in the dash above the ashtray. Porsche, in theory, can identify the vin from that number. Whether or not they will give you that info is questionable.

I guess you want to see if it was stolen?

The SC also has the chassis number (not the VIN) stamped in the dash above the ashtray. On the SC, (to my knowledge) the VIN is shown in the 3 places you list: driver's side A pillar tag, driver's door jam sticker, and on the chassis tag below the smuggler's box.

Is a valid number in chalk under the dash pad on an sc?

I am having similar issues locating my 1978 911sc vin. It was repainted previously and the sticker on driver door pillar was removed. Also, the number under the hood in front of the smugglers box is gone. I pulled the passenger knee pad under the radio and found a "build number" which is the same number written in chalk under the dash cover, over the instrument cluster. I have been told there is a 3 digit number behind the driver door interior panel. It is supposed to be the last 3 digits of the vin. Keeping fingers crossed.
