902/1 trans shift coupler install!
Hello all,
l just replaced the original shift rod coupling on my 902/1 5 speed transmission and cannot engage 4th and 5th gears while driving. I placed the shifter in 1st gear and trying not to move things too much I installed the new Porsche shift rod coupling I also noted that the new coupler has a lot of play in the rubber bushing, is that normal? How should I have placed the shifter? I read that the shift rod coupling install is different than the 915 or G50 transmission. Thanks to all, Jose |
In neutral. Shifter centered fr to rear, hold to the right and turn coupler to the left, tighten nut/bolt.

coupler install
hello and thanks, a little confused...
when you say "hold to the right and turn coupler to the left" what do you mean? turn tube to the right as facing to the front? or facing towards rear of the car? |
He's saying to hold the shifter to all the way right (centered) at the same time rotate coupler all the way opposite direction and tighten the pinch bolt
However, this may not make a difference but I always hold shifter all the way left not right. May get the same exact result. Daniel |
It could be the clamp on the rod to the coupler. Try loosening it, it could be too tight.

You're fighting the spring tension if you hold left. Probably the same result, but easier to hold right. 915s you hold left.

SmileWavy Thank you all, I will follow your instructions!
