fresh air blower on/off lever is tight - 1983

hi. turning the fresh air fan on is pretty easy. not much resistance. sliding the lever back to the left to shut it off is really a firm push. sometimes have to go in small distances. stop and then push some more. something aint right

is there a troubleshooting procedure to fix this? a point of lubrication?

Just did a complete redo on my '86 M491 Cab. Fresh air fan motor quit. Easy disassembly. Tougher removal of squirrel cage fan from hub (used a soldering iron carefully to heat shaft), easy clean and resistor reset. The cable mechanism on my car uses one cable (top slide) to open/direct fresh air and then actuate three speed fan switch (controlled by resistor). When disconnecting cable link extend it all the way to right and clean and re-lube w/lithium grease. Work it back and forth several times/repeat until it operates smoothly. Use the Bentley manual for a direct play by play. By the by the little rings holding the housing together are a tough nut to remove and be careful not to break the plastic tips they bind together.
Go to Fresh air blower controls for more info
