Mice

And it is too late to plug the holes in the shop or in the heating system in the car...the varmits are already inside the castle walls. The slip and slide came today. Pulled out the peanut butter and some nuts. All set up...swimming lesson time. Cautiously optomistic... |

Don't use poison. They'll die and smell. Glue traps are ok, but the bucket is the best. |
Varmits
Day 1 =2 Gotta long way to go...
|
I figured it out...
Mice aren't that smart. They need visual help. I was missing signage. :D

I’ve left this little mummy here for about half a dozen years, as a reminder for others who may mistakenly think this is a good place to settle down. |
Unfortunately might not be possible, but the goal is to seal them out. I paid for some pros to trap and seal how they are getting in and it worked well.

If your living situation allows, the best option is to keep a Cat around. If a Cat does not want to catch a mouse or only plays with them then you simply feed it too much.

Varmits...slow progress

Day 2 = 1 Maybe I advertise the restaurant also offers a wading pool SmileWavy Hey Matt, are your chickens the egg producing type or are they soldiers of fortune? If the latter, I may need to rent a couple for a weekend. |
oh dear!
Day 3 = 0
I'm pretty sure there were more than three mice in my shop. Either that or those three former poopers were machines. I'll give it one more day in the shop and then move it to the 911. |

I cover the top of the water surface with sunflower seeds. They dive in to feast and can't get out. One day I put out the bucket in the morning before heading off to work. Came home at 5:00 and found 8 varmints "passed out" after partying too hard. Definitely need to protect your 911 from rodents. They love setting up shop in there. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/885763-winter-storage-tip.html |
Varmits
Day 4 = 1. Gotta say that we are making progress, but we are definitely not killing it.
Move the bucket to my car...this should be interesting. Just vacuumed it out three days ago and today, poop all over my seats again...argh! |
Put a glue trap in your car where they are hanging out. You will catch them.
I'll agree with earlier comments that they are not humane. But they will catch mice. |
One week later...
Five non-swimmers in the pail...that means 5/7 of a varmit per day. We are making progress but I don't think the description of "killing it" is going to be put to use just yet.

I've tried the flip top method per youtube and couldn't get the top to flip consistently. I may try the rod with peanut butter but prefer the quickness of the snap trap.
Catches seem to run in cycles. Catch some every day or other day for a while then nothing then it starts back up. I just built a new shop that is supposed to be critter tight. I had the 86 parked over night and saw a mouse scurry out when I backed out. Better than the shop seems to be under a car cover at least when I'm driving it frequently. I have my son's 79 VW bug and an 85 MBZ diesel wagon stored inside and put rags with ammonia in the engine bays and under the cars. Mice and rats supposedly don't like ammonia. I'm going to set some more snap traps too. Supposedly there is poison that won't kill other animals that eat the poisoned rats or mice. |
