Thumbs up I’m a believer!

I just put a new set of SSI’s on my 2.7 CSI motor and I can certainly tell that the torque curve has been extended and it almost certainly it has more power. After adjusting the fuel mixture and re timing the distributor this car seems so much smother and responsive then before the installation. These pipes are definitely a work of art. I also removed the smog pump and the old air conditioner bracket and soon will back date the heater. I can see the motor much better with all that garbage removed.

I have had the car on the dino before this project and will do it again to see what differences have been realized and will post them as soon as I can.

The cams have been ground to SC specs, I was wondering if I was to replace the fuel distributor to an SC type, if I would see any performance gain. The distributor has been upgraded to a Euro spec.

I'm having SSI's installed right now. Stock system is off the car and before that I had the car tested on a rolling road. I'll have it tested on rolling road again after the SSI's have been installed.

BTW how precise are rolling roads after all? I got a pretty amazing result and regardless of how much I want to believe it I just can't help but think that somehow it measured wrong. I guess the second run will give me a hint.

Hello John Velasco!

Good topic. How many miles do you have on your 2.7?

Thanks,

Benson

I have about 5200 miles on the motor. The PO had all the work done and then bought a 2003 4s. He gave me a great price on this car (I paid less then the receipts on the suspension and motor rebuild).

Wow! what a great deal you got on your 911! Must be nice driving it up to Big Bear. Any Pics?

Do you think if you keep your 2.7 you can get over 200,000 miles on it?

I put up a post called Super 911's asking about the most miles that P owners were getting and there was some say they got over 180,000. miles on there Crank Case and Cylinders.
One owner said he got over 240,000.

I like your thumb nail pic.

Thank you,

Benson

I can’t tell if this motor will ever see 200,000 miles, but in the present it is very well balanced and extremely tight. It has all the current mods to make it as close to an 84-86-style carrera, so I hope to gain some longevity for it. I like the 2.7 over some of the larger engines because of its rev speed to red line but my experience is somewhat limited. I have been spending some time with the car and have to admit that the narrow body car is a blast to drive. I know that a current model would have greater adhesion and power but the narrow body car has been fun to find its limits and the power seems to be just about right for the suspension. All in all this is one of the sportier cars have owned, I love it and am calculating what it will take to by a 993 turbo.

Ummmmm, correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't the SC dizzy turn the wrong way for a 2.7?

Same feeling I got with my 3.2. The SSI system really is a work of art and made my motor feel like it should have after pulling the old system off. Another big plus is that it sounded like a 911 should and that helped as well!

And to think...the longnoses got the SSI design as standard...not stainless, but the same design. Anybody know if dealerships are still asking MORE for early factory heat exchangers than SSI's cost?

No doubt Paul, I wouldn't be surprised if the factory ones cost twice as much as the SSI variety.

Do you still have the originals on your S?
