1984 911 3.2 cold start issue

Good day all,
I’ve been having issues with cold starting since last year. It starts but won’t idle unless I apply some gas pedal to maintain engine running. Once a bit warm(around 10s) it idles fine. I’m sure this is a knowed issue, is there an easy fix for that since I haven’t found the solution on this forum.

Thanks for your help,

Martin

Run some techron through the gas tank, and take it out for an italian tuneup!
If that doesnt work exersize the head temperature sender connection sometimes a bit of corrosion will keep it from sending the correct signal.
If that doesn't work, clean the ICV, and check the idle switch on the throttle body for continuity at full closed throttle.
Easiest to harder sequence.

Hi Martin, I looked to see if i could find any information on the subject.

In our DIY section there is a write-up on starting issues regarding the carrera engine:
https://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/911_carrera_start_troubleshoot/911_carrera_start_troubleshoot.htm

Also searching our forums I was able to locate a few other posts on the topic including this one where ICV was found to be the root cause:
Cold start/idle issue: '87 Carrera

Hopefully this helps!
