				Rear PORSCHE reflector is warped

Rear reflector was replaced a few years ago. It is now warped in several areas - shop suspects it is related to heat from the muffler, perhaps because it is not an OEM piece (I.e. inferior quality)

Has anyone experienced this issue? Jason

I have never seen that before. Can you post some pics of the damage and aftermarket part?

Yes. It happened to me. I noticed the reflector was starting to be affected and that the surrounding area was pretty hot. I made a heat shield out of sheet metal which fixed the problem, avoiding further damage. I did not know at the time there was supposed to be a heat shield there.

McMaster Carr sells heat sheet material that is reflective on one side and adhesive on the other. I cut a piece to fit the inside of the bumper and reach up as far behing the rear reflector as possible. Used to hi temp adhesive to augment the material's adhesive and stuck it in place. Seems to make a significant difference in heat in this area.

I did have to pull the M & K to gain good access.

Or, you could spend the $50 bucks or so and install the one the factory used.

It shouldn't be a problem that needs a new solution. Last edited by group911@aol.co; 05-11-2022 at 07:46 AM.. |

Don’t know if heat shield is there or not - is it easy to see? I had a near-full restoration done about 5 yrs ago - body stripped, top end engine rebuild which included replacing the muffler and heat exchangers. It is very possible that the shop did not replace the heat shield - their list of miscues seem to be growing. Jason

It's a filler panel that covers the open area below the reflector. Usually unpainted silver galvanize.

Heat shield missing. We just replaced one on a 76 Turbo. Both shields missing. Reflector melted crazy... Replaced reflector, installed both shields, problem solved....

That's pretty weird Jason. Sort of bad luck I guess.

When you have the heat shield in place try fixing the rear reflector with a hot air gun and leather gloves, instead of buying a replacement. |

Just start shopping for a good used one. It can be hard to find one with all the clips on the back intact. I think the new reflectors available from Porsche look like the newer Carrera and not like the earlier cars.
