Rocker Arms Stuck After Tightening Rocker Arms

Hey everyone. I知 rebuilding my 2nd 2.7L engine. I知 getting ready to time the cams so I知 installing rocker arms and shafts on cylinders 1 and 4. But after tightening the shafts any more than 4 or 5 foot pounds, the arms become very difficult to rotate. When I rotate the engine, they engage as they should with the lobes of the cams. But there is no way I can set my valve clearances because I can稚 move them by hand.

Rocker shafts are new and slide easily into the cam tower.

What am I missing? This was not an issue in my first rebuild.

Thanks in advance for your help,

Jeff

The end of the shaft needs to be almost flush with the outside of the narrow boss. You probably have the shaft expanding inside the rocker bushing, and flush with the wider boss.

Jeff as John said look here the position of the shaft have to be like this..also make sure the smaller allen (top of the bolt will face inside not to the outside of the engine...

In the above diagram, the pinch washer is almost flushed NOT the rocker shaft. So be aware of the little discrepancy in the diagram. It is the rocker shaft that should be flushed, not the pinch washer as shown.
