2.2 engine removal

I'm pulling the engine out of my 70 911. Where is the best place to remove the oil lines? At the tank or at the engine? I have all connections soaking in liquid wrench so it should be loose by morning.

Couldn't say, but the safest way would be both ends and new o-rings for the cooler.
Also, try PB Blaster for a penetrant in rusty spots.

It doesn't really matter so much but be ready with an oil pan and some paper towels. I believe i removed the oil lines that were attached to the engine when i pulled my 2.2.

I always take them off at the tank. On my '67 there is a few clamps that attach the longer line to the engine, and they are much easier to get to with the engine out.

Follow up ques. The nuts on the tank are massive 36mm and one is 32.5 mm if my memory serves me right and I got the dial calipers in there correctly. The half size nut doesn't make sense and it has what looks like a split in it. Does it require a special wrench? I know these tanks are expensive so I don't want to screw it up.

I just use a large adjustable wrench. I don't remember anything odd about the nuts, other than one is a inside fit and one a flanged compression nut. They do take a bit of force to get them off. There is no place for a back up wrench on the tank side, so I guess we just have to hope it is on there solid. I don't know if your '70 is different than my '67. Good luck!
