3.2 Carrera Brake Discs
Rotor width is getting a little thin, thinking I’ll replace all 4 corners soon. Is there a preferred brand for rotors on these cars? Porsche original parts are ~2x the cost of some of the other brands offered by our host. Also wondering about pads, thanks!

I did mine in March. I reached out to PMB and bought whatever they suggested, Sebro in this case.
Our host sells them too. For pads I went with Porterfield RS-4 and am very pleased with the overall setup. If you haven’t already I’d suggest changing your lines to stainless while you’re at it. |

I "second" calling PMB and following their advice. They supplied all of the brake parts (and more) for my '71 914-6 restoration and I couldn't be happier with the parts or the service. Eric Shea is a great guy who is a true Porsche lover/supporter.

I purchased everything from PMB. The results were perfect.

Buy the best that you can afford - these are considered 'wear' items.

Nothing wrong with Zimmerman.

You may be lucky and still have enough meat on the rotors to have them turned. I had mine done at a quality shop and my car still stops on the dime. I bought my pads from Pelican and I changed them.

I had a out of round back rotor. Had shudder when braking. My long time tire shop used a on wheel tool to turn the back rotors. . Shudder gone, car stops perfect, rotors still in spec. I installed new pads with in tolerance rotors. I know my brakes are good.

Thanks all, just took the calipers off today to send into PMB. Will be replacing rubber brake lines as well as pads and rotors. Another question: should I clean my bleeder valves or buy new ones? If clean, is there a special chemical/solvent I should use?

Bump, I think this might have gotten lost when the forum stopped updating around 7/31.

If the bleeder screws aren't rounded off then you should be OK to clean and reuse. Maybe try some brake cleaner. When I got my PMB calipers they came with new bleeder screws though.

After I ordered new bleeder screws from our host and somehow they didn't fit I cleaned the one that was clogged with a wire and brake cleaner. Good as new. I replaced the rubber caps as well.

It's likely obvious, but a trick on those little rubber caps is to buy a bag of assorted silicon plugs and caps from Amazon, a paint store, wherever and leave them in your toolbox. You'll find plenty of uses when working on cars to plug or cap a line, or cover threads while painting something.
I cut some shorter and use them to cap the bleeder screws to help keep them clean. |

Bringing this back to the top for a new question. Today new rotors arrived for all 4 corners (Sebro). The 2 front rotors have different finishes (one slightly crosshatched, the other relatively smooth). I'm wondering if it's okay to install these as-is or if I should order another rotor to ensure that I have matching finishes on both front left and right. For what it's worth, the rear rotors have the same smooth finish as the rotor on the right of the photo.

Don’t worry about it. The cross hatching is quite fine and will disappear after your first drive.

Back with a brake update now that I've had the PMB calipers on the car for about 9 months. Wanted to see if anything I've experienced recently is unusual...
Bled the breaks yesterday and noticed this bright orange gunk coming out of one of the calipers. Any idea what this is? ![]() Additionally, it looks like the fasteners on a couple of the calipers have started rusting. Is this normal? ![]() ![]() |
