Valve cover gaskets?

Wayne sells them with or without the silicone bead on the bottom gasket. Why would I want these? (doing my first oil change in a week or so). Also, I don't have to touch the sump...right?

IMHO buy the ALL silicon valve cover gaskets, they wash up at each valve adjust and seal like no paper gasket. They run about 30.00.

Sump doesn't have to be touched unless it is leaking.

You don't say which year/model car you have. I assume you're adjusting valves as well as doing an oil change. Correct? Because you don't have to touch the valve covers to change the oil, just drain the oil tank and the case. The sump cover doesn't have to be removed, just the plug to drain the case (unless you want to drain the case and don't have an oil drain plug in the sump cover), however most guys do remove the sump cover periodically and check/clean the screen then reinstall with a new gasket; be sure you have new seal rings for the drain plugs also.

Sorry, I just realized your year and model was in the signature. I assume you're changing oil on the Carrera.

The PO put silicone valve cover gaskets on my car. No leaks at all.

The 3 Porsche garages that Ive taken it too all commented on them, negative comments... like there is some problem with having a non-OEM VC gasket.

To heck with their opinions, Im into whatever works. Next valve adjustment, Ill slap another pair one. Silicone is not just for breast implants.

Sonic . . . . just wash with soap and water, let dry and then "slap them in there"

Changed gaskets twice before replacing with all silicone, these were the only ones I got a good seal with. Still gets a little weapage but not bad. Important to tighten per torque spec.

Can someone post a picture of a valve cover gasket along with the inside of a cover. I design gaskets for a living and would love to take a look at what this gasket looks like. I may even get our aftermarket division to make an improved gasket.

Here's a picture of the inside of the Turbo lower valve covers (a worthwhile upgrade on any earlier 911) together with a picture of the all-silicone upper & lower gaskets:

Where can you buy these silicone gaskets, I already have the turbo valve covers. I need to do a valve adjustment this next week, I also need the new nuts and washers. I looked but i take it that Pelican does not sell the all silicone gaskets.
