Question- rusty brake rotors- any ideas?
 

Last August, I put new brake rotors all the way around on my 89 911. Stock original equipment rotors. The brake pad contact area is obviously being kept clean by the pads, but recently I've noticed the 'hub' of the rotor is getting rusty. . Has anyone done anything to solve this that works? The rust looks really nasty especially through my C2 turbo wheels. How about a paint? does it last? Thanks for you suggestions.

i do it last year ! and the same thing happen ...
if you go in plate shope like for the chrome you can plate it in color gold zinc...
the charge me 60.00 for the four discs and no more rust...

It is easier to do this off the car as shown. Just clean them up with some sandpaper and brake cleaner them hit them with some high heat paint, aluminum or metal colored. The paint will show some changes with heat, but still be effective in preventing the ugly rust.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads/Ebay 038.jpg

Todsimpson, I am familiar with the Wurth paint, but is POR 15 a primer or cleaner? Thanks.

Just letting you know that they do make high heat paint in a lighter colored "aluminum" finish and a grey "metal" finish.

I know what you meant I just had to raz a little as this is my business that is metals etc. I'm not trying to be mean.

OK, the razzin I can live with (and encourage:D !) It has been a while since I've has some basic sciences, but aluminum also has plenty of nonmetal properties! (I just can't remember what they were?)

POR15 is a paint that goes right onto surface rust, stopping the rust and sealing it for the future. It requires more cleaning and prep than regular paint but when it's on, it's like a hard shell. Check out POR15.com for details, or also do a search, a lot of Pelicanites have used it on interior floor pans.

I was going to use just the POR15, but you brush it on and it looked a but runny so I finished with the Wurth silver.

And if you do use POR15, follow all the directions to the letter. Prep is really important for a good result and so is wearing gloves!
