Further to my previous post, if you make a coil for epoxy fill, you have to change the design to compensate for the less penetrative epoxy. Essentially you either use a wire with a better insulation, or you use a better insulation material between the windings. When you take apart a new Bosch silver coil, the design is exactly the same as the black coil, just filled with epoxy. That is the mistake. |

Actually plan "A" was the original black coil which was fine until I dropped it while it was hung up for painting. Not one of my finest moments. of course the resulting tiny dent would be pointed straight up and perfectly visible. I'm carrying it as a spare just in case. (Also as a result of this thread!) |
Just want to add my experience with coil failure on my 3.2. It was as described above, would run great and then stumble a bit and then run great. It progressed to the stumble being longer, like a clogged fuel line or something that would then clear up. Finally it gave up entirely. In my case the repair was simple. The 3.2 did not have a coil for a 3.2. Replaced and now 100% perfect. Never had a coil fail in all my years.

Cairo - What coil did you get that solved your problem? Black? silver?

Re-mount the coil to eliminate engine vibration damage over time which wasn't supposedly an issue due to quality of the manufacturing.
