Steering Wheel Quick Disconnect and Horn?

Hello Fellow Pelicans...I’d like to purchase a Quick Disconnect for a steering wheel...primarily as a theft deterrent, but it would also be a neat bit of kit on the car. BUT I still want a working horn. There are vids online where owners of other car brands have managed to make this work (Acura and Toyota), but I have not found any solid advice/solution for this on an older Porsche. Has anyone successfully tackled this?

You have to buy the right disconnect. I know NRG has electrical contacts, they are also proven and affordable. Lifeline makes them too at a significantly higher cost. There is only 1-2 wires in there, should be same whether it's a Honda or a Porsche.

Snap-off QR is what you need.
I love mine.

I second the Snap Off. It’s the one I use.

Get the spacer, brings the wheel closer and helps with horn button installation

This^. You need a spacer to make room.

Thanks guys...do the pulls on the Snap Off get in the way of turn signal stalk, cruise control, etc.?

No interference with stalks (turn signal or wipers).

Looks cool but completely out of place in anything except in a boy racer tuned out pimp mobile, IMO.

You are looking for a QR with the option to connect the horn.
Why would you add this? There is no need.
To each his own and if you like it, why not? It is a bolt-on/bolt-off option.

Just trying to consider all options... I would much prefer a design that at a quick glance didn’t stand out, but I guess the buttons would be counter to that. The look and quality of Rennline product is appealing, but it doesn’t accommodate the wiring. So outboard buttons could be an option.

The Snap Off design has appeal, but I’m not as much a fan of the appearance of the knobs on the side. Can you share a picture or two of the Snap off installed on the car?

It sounds like you want a ring type , as you don’t like pulling nobs .
I can recommend the krontec with deutch connector , but it won’t be cheap .....

i have both FIA approved SPA and a Lifeline quick release with splined collars 20+ years on a couple of cars. they still are tight without play.

i wouldn't go cheap on this one part. all it takes is a miniscule of play which are often found on the hex type collars to spoil your steering feel which can be annoying. if there is any play, it will only get worse.

Lifeline here... im surprise Summit cares them? i thought they were more of a hotrod supplier. I had to order mine from the UK back in the 90's. they arent cheap but you get what you pay for.

Summit carries some vintage road racing stuff. Bought some TB15's from them.

On the Lifeline, does the part where the wheel is bolted to the 6 little arms have threads or are they threadless and you have to use washers and nuts? Little washers and nuts are annoying and seem pointless.

I also dig the Snap Off. I’ve had one for at least a decade.

Will they work with a stock Carrera steering wheel?

My lifeline is for a momo bolt pattern. It use standard momo screws on the face and on the hub I believe. It’s been 20 yrs since I’ve put it on so I’m not certain since the car is in storage. I do have another one, if I can find it I’ll check.

Looks like they have many more configurations now, they only had 3 or 4 different ones back then. The momo adapter was there only “bolt on” street version back then.

The SPA is a racing custom bolt pattern screwed, welded on the steering shaft.
