74 Targa 2.7 CIS - rear high pressure metal fuel line replacement

2.7 CIS Targa 1974

I am looking to replace the high pressure metal rear fuel line that goes from the pump through the rear chassis rail and into the engine bay.

Has anyone done this job

Both ends of the line have crimped on rubber hoses, so I am wondering how do you get the metal fuel line through the chassis rail? Its like the rubber hoses were crimped on after the metal line was fitted through the rail.

The 74 911 model has been the subject of many fuel issues and many upgrades. Do a search on "74 911 Fuel" to find a few.

By replacing the hose clamps with crimps, someone was trying to improve the fire safety. Clamps are not adequate with the high fuel pressures of CIS.

They were just not thinking about serviceability.

You will have to cut this hose to make the repair. And while you are doing this, why not reroute the Feed & Return Hoses though the left corner above the frame crossmember as here....

All 911s from 75 on route their hoses above and at this left corner.

This way you can crimp a one-piece feed hose from the pump, and eliminate the multiple connections that were originally clamped.

There are many more fuel system issues with the 74 model. The Tunnel Lines and rear pump location are a couple more.

You can greatly improve the drivability by replacing the old "side-outlet" Pump with a new "Flow-Through" Bosch pump as used in all 911SC and 3.2 Carrera models.

I can help with all of the above if interested.

Bringing this back to show others.

The later fuel Hose routing is MUCH less prone to leaks and possible FIRE.

For info, please email me. No pm's.
