Cool How do you.....

How is the wiring to the cigarette lighter accessed? My '80 911SC coupe has a metal shield that runs under the cig. lighter, the
rear defrost switch and the fog light switch. The cig. lighter socket is only hot when the ignition is on, and I want to rewire it so that it is hot all the time. No, I don't smoke, but I would like to recharge my cell phone occasionally when I am not in the car. The only access that I could even imagine is thru the trunk which would require removing a lot of hvac hardware. Another possibility would be to mount a power outlet in the trunk and use that for a charging port while out of the car. A big plus is that the phone is locked up out of sight. Any other good ideas out there?

Thanks,

Fred Cook

if it was my car I'd run new hot & cold 12ga. direct from the battery.. one outlet in the trunk, and another under the dash on the pass side.. I'd solder all connections, and under fuse it in-line to 10amps.. IMO, the German lighter socket isn't a great female fit to the appliance male ....................Ron

Actually, I think that I might mount one in a door pocket so that I can charge the phone and keep it out of sight/way at the same time. I considered putting the socket in the glove box, but really don't want to give up the space. I don't know what amperage he phone charger pulls, but probably not much
