Rear coil overs and 935 spring plates. Advice? Opinions?

On my latest project, I’ve decided to go with rear coil overs and 935 spring plates.

Is there a 935 style spring plate that is technically any different or better?

Is there any benefit for using Rebel Racing vs Elephant or vise versa?

Leaning towards the Rebel racing version at the moment.

Thanks!

I like the ERP Suspension Engineering ones (not to be confused with Elephant Racing, different companies) because of the 1pc. Design and I believe they use the largest heim so should wear better. Tarett is a distributor of the ERP ones.

Agree - - we have had excellent service from Tarett - - call and talk to Ira for your recommended changes. We have both the coil over front and rear and 935 front suspension - easy to adjust. Be sure to do the rear top spring mount welded reinforcements.

Roy T

Thanks all. I'll check with Tarret and the original ERP stuff. Yes... rear shock reinforcements and a few other chassis mods happening next.

ERP = Eisenlohr Racing Products. Great parts, expert designer and biz owner.

Bought my spring plates from Ira at Tarett along with some other parts for my race car and have sent many happy Porschephiles his way. Outstanding products and person.

Cary Eisenlohr and Ira have a collaborative relationship.

Learned a few things when I installed my spring plates-- feel free to ask questions and will try to help in this thread.

Whilst in that area, it is a good idea to check for cracks in the chassis in the spring plate attachment area.

There are threads on this.

Elephant RP make a kit to help with this-- you might be able to buy this from Tarett.

I made my own reinforcement plates from scrap I had laying around.

I just did all this with the Elephant racing reinforcements. Some tubs are different……. Mine took a LOT of grinding on the torque tube to get everything to fit nicely. There are a bunch of pics in my build thread.

Excellent thread... missed that one last year.

Especially posts #28 and 33.

Nice to see folks still sharing info like this.

My spring plate reinforcement project was very straightforward.

I got everything ready and then had a mobile welder come to my garage. He did a fantastic job.

If you want to raise both the inner and outer pickup points, it may be helpful to study whether the rear coilovers can make it through the stock crossmember.

It may be also helpful to know that all or most of the products like Eisenlohr's and the Rebel Racing version may require some special thin wrenches for toe adjustment. SRP used to sell them.

I discovered it was most cost effective to buy the metric service wrench set from Harbor Freight.

Thanks for all the advice so far. I just sent Evan a p.m. but will post it here as well so there is a little background on the project.

"Thanks for commenting on my 935 spring plate post.

I just picked up a stalled project. ...you may have some ideas/thoughts.

It is an 83 SC tub that has an 89 930 torsion tube (G50) added along with 930 trailing arms, brakes etc.

I'll be installing a 3.6 varioram. Unsure what mods but maybe only RS or SS cams or something. I'll be using the g50/50 trans. Overkill but it came with the project and this allows me to add horsepower later.

I'm going with 935 spring plates because the fenders were not modded to be able to remove the spring plates and torsion bars. Guessing they added fenders after torsion tube installed.

I am cutting the spring plates and removing the t-bars and will go coil overs and 935 plates.

I checked your build thread but the photos are not showing up. Any advice for me based on what I told you above?

I saw something about a starter issue you had. Did you get that fixed?

The car has what looks like a ligher flywheel/clutch package than a 993. I am not sure if it is off a 3.3 turbo or 87-89 carrera.

Hope all that above makes sense.

Car will be a fun do it all car built to look like an IROC"
