clutch modulation after hi speed

after traveling at hi speeds (above 3500 rpms) for any length of time, i notice a funny thing in the clutch when i first depress it to downshift-- kind of shaking, just at the very top of its position, just as i go to press on it. feels like its jiggling/wiggling/vibrating and definitely feels like its resonating with engine movement or something.

any ideas about what this is--and if it requires service?
