Was wondering if anyone uses Grundy insurance? Just saw a little plug on My Classic Car. My car is not a daily driver and it would be nice to have it covered for a lot less money. But, won't mess with it unless it is full proof. Just wondering about these agreed value insurers.

Do a search on Grundy and Haggerty. We discussed it in depth about two weeks ago. Search button is in the upper right corner of the site.

Mike,
Neither one will insure a motorcycle. Both of them were within a few bucks and will save me over $1000 a year on insurance. Considering that most of us have a "daily driver" and use our Pcars for fun, we qualify for their policy. I am ditching Farmers for everything but the Honda and bike shortly. Joe

Grundy was lowest and least restrictive at least for me.
Ann prem; $240 Comp/coll covered UIM covered No deductible No mileage limit pretty hard to beat I didn't get anywhere with Haggerty [car too new] and Snead was also good but a bit higher priced todd =-=-=-=-=-=- 86 cpe |

Cross T...can you elaborate on this?? How in the world could "classic car" insurance give you all this for $240 annual?
Ann prem; $240 Comp/coll covered UIM covered No deductible No mileage limit NO mileage limit??? How so...? Wouldnt that allow you to get this cheap insurance on a daily driver? Thanks Sonic |

Sonic,
Your limitations are: 1. You must have a "daily driver" and prove it 2. Must be over a certain age (am 50 so its not a factor) 3. Good driving record (havent been caught yet!) 4. Certain limits on mileage. Mine was 5000 a year which is not a problem at this time. Some policies have no mileage limit so it varies. I have a 911, two Jags and a Honda daily driver. Cutting out the three cars and leaving the bike and Honda on my homeowners policy will save me over a thou a year and still cover the cars. As well am tired of Farmers screwing me for insurance on cars I rarely drive but need coverage when I do. Joe

I checked with another "classic" insurer (Leland West) who disqualified me because my daily driver (89 MB) is over 3 years old. I wonder if Haggerty has the same limitation....hmmmm.
FYI...I recently bought 25k worth of DE insurance for $375/year through American Collectors Ins....seemed like some good peace-of-mind for a reasonable price.

Sonic,
Joe's response pretty much says it. No commuting, that's about it. Gotta have a daily driver. They told me the trend in this type of insurance is away from mileage limits, too hard to determine . . . Seems hard to believe. I thought so too. They are a Chubb sub. Chubb is a MAJOR insurance player. Anyway, if someone has to use this collector car insurance, god forbid, it would be enlightening to share experience. todd =-=-=-=-=-=- 86 cpe |

An interesting sidebar would indeed be how the insurance company took care of you after an accident. Most of us, unfortunately, fixate on insurance *rates* to determine whether a company is good or not...
