Engine Type 930/01

I’m buying a motor and it has type 930/01 but no serial number. The Type number looks like a factory stamp to me but I can’t find any info in any of my reference books for this. Reputable race shop says 3.0L 964 cams and JE pistons. Can anyone help me with this?

What does the bottom of the case look like - early or late 930 case? How about the 930.xxx.xxx.xR case number?

Early sump style case. No engine number. Looks like 3.2 heads. Standard short intake studs.

Oops forgot the 4R. It doesn’t have the early style turbo casting numbers on the side of the case.

Excellent Rick. Hopefully, someone will recognize the context and be able to give you a definitive answer. Looks like a good package.

Cheers

Thx for taking the time to take a look. It really doesn’t matter to much what it started as I’m just curious. I’ve never seen an 01.

On each side of the case there should be a small circle that contains a casting date. I’ll try to post a picture showing exactly where later. It may give you further info.

My best guess is a factory replacement case and someone just stamped it like that.

Does it have a 6 or 9 bolt crank?
