Missing CVJ Spring Washer

In replacing the CV Joint Boot on my 911SC, found the 901.332.311.10 Cup Spring (aka spring washer, joint spring, etc) is missing. Looks like they are NLA. Any thoughts as to what to replace it with, or what will happen if I leave it out? Not sure how long it ran this way, but doesn't seem to have caused any problems -

TIA

You’ll have to buy used, try dc auto. If not I might have one

You can use the Schnor washers instead, AND drill the bolts for safety wires. They never come out then.

Just use Nord-Lock washers and be done with it. No safety wire needed.

Thanks for the replies. To clarify, this is the spring washer (or Belleville washer) that fits on the axle below the CV joint. I assume this absorbs shock and takes up some of the slack between the CV joint and circlip. Seems like there is some debate as to whether or not it's really required. I can see where it might be important to retain it.

I've dug around trying to find a suitable replacement, but nothing I can find comes close. Too small, too thick, etc -

you need that ...

If it's what I think it is, check McMaster Carr assuming you have one to measure.

Post a WTB ad in the classifieds.
I have mailed CV small parts for free to several people over the years.
Unfortunately for you, I moved a few years back and chucked out my big box of cvs and parts and axles and have none to send. Fortunately for you, there are probably hundreds of guys on here with the same box of parts.

While it appears from their on-line catalog that out host does not carry them, there are "axle flange" or "CV joint boot with flange" kits available that do include this belleville washer. A quick search revealed several sources. A phone call to our host may reveal they actually do carry them, there are many parts that either do not show or are very difficult to find on their catalog site.

It appears that our host shows that the belleville washer for the 930 (901 332 312 00) fits the SC. I will give that a try -

Thank you to everyone for their replies and help on this!

Pelican has them # 901 332 312 00 cost $8.00

Hey Dale, did the 930 cup washer work for your SC axle?

I've run into the exact same issue on my CV rebuild and if it worked for you, it should work for me (better than $500 plus for a whole axle assembly)

thx/Brian

Sent all the unused extras out, but they are easy to source. Mine have stayed tight as a drum!

Umm please see post #5: this is NOT the washers for cv bolts.

It is the gigantic washer for the AXLES. Goes on the axle, then the cv joint assembly goes on the axle, then the c-clip holds the above in place.

Fortunately (but embarrassingly enough), I found the washer. Dug through the trash and pulled out the old boot, and found the washer buried in all the grease at the bottom. Hopefully, Pelican is correct that it will work, and will probably be ok. Let us know what you find (or if you find it!)

Lol, sounds like something i would do. In this case the axle was rebuilt by a previous owner and i was rebuilding again due to a torn boot when i discovered the missing c-washer. So it is long gone.

Anyway i have ordered the 930 version from our host and will update here when i get back to this job.

Brian Cameron 12-31-2022 02:56 AM

Update: the 930 version was too big for the axle on my 79SC unfortunately. Maybe it would fit some of the later model years, not sure.

However as Jeff noted above, our host sells a CV boot kit 923-332-037-00-M60 which includes the elusive washer! Ordered that just for the washer and it fit perfectly.

Plus the included CV gasket was a godsend when one of them got contaminated with grease and fell off during installation of the axles.
