915 Ring and Pinion Options
Pulled this 915 apart and found this:
So I need a new ring and pinion. Rest of the trans looks ok. Not sure why this has happened. The pinion race is not loose in the housing and I don't believe this has been apart before. Owner said it didn't whine and that it just was a little hard to get into 1st and 2nd. Do I assume that buying 2nd hand is not a good idea? Any feedback on Albins items? Open to suggestions... ![]()

Something went through there and chipped it.
I have a super nice used 8/31 with speedo drive. I also have new Hoer 7:31 for about $1000 less than Porsche Classic’s price. If you’re interested email me at gtgears@yahoo.com. I don’t PM. Last I checked Porsche Classic only has 7:31 available. No 8:31. But it never hurts to ask them. Albins are noisy. Tandler in Germany makes nice stuff and has an 8:35 option available. Don’t k ow anyone in the States who stocks them.

I have a Guard 930 Pro in my 915 and it has been a great improvement on the racetrack. I just had installed a NPR LSD in my Cayman as Guard's lead time was too long for my needs and so far the NPR has been pretty d*mn good on the track too.

Mike,
That is an NPR ring and pinion. You cannot beat the quality of their products. Paul Guard is deeply involved with NPR.

No Poltics Racing is a vendetta business, with the express intent of putting me out of business. I bought Guard Transmission 15 years ago. Paul doesn’t like what I’ve made the company and NPR is their answer to that. Their marketing flyers look like old GT flyers. Their product looks just like GT product. It’s a copycat business deliberately presented in a way to create market confusion and make the consumer think it’s the same thing, because Paul Guard.

Assuming NPR did not make the ring and pinion themselves but had it made for them...how is that any different than your business? I have no comment on the rest of your rant...

As for the rest? I meant that everything is not as it seems. I've attached a couple pictures. The clutches on the left are our coated clutches, the cornerstone of our brand and performance. The ones on the right are just polished and not the same at all. When covid happened, the coating facility closed down and was gone for 18 months. During that time, NPR was producing and selling diffs. They approached Singer, a customer of mine since 2012, who I have made well over 100 LSDs for. Desperate they bought some NPR LSDs, while leaving their POs open with me. Here we are now and I've filled those old POs. And have been helping to retrofit some new NPR LSDs with actual friction clutches so they can deliver the level of car they always have. I only know what I know. Do you guys with NPR LSDs in your cars have friction clutches or just polished plates? I don't know. I know that they sold some to Singer like that, and Singer caught it on the test drive. You can't see what's inside that pretty LSD housing. Just because something looks like what you're used to, doesn't mean that it is. YMMV. ![]() ![]()
