Exhaust popping under acceleration
Hi all, recently purchased a 1982 911SC. Original motor, starts up great idles fine and revs great when in and out of gear. However once getting up to operating temperature accelerating with moderate throttle seems to make the exhaust pop. Car doesn’t seem to be lugging or low on power and the noise seems to come from the rear passenger side. Air box has pop off valve and is functioning properly. When at idle and the oil cap is popped off the idle drops… leading me to believe that the car doesn’t have a vacuum leak. Also recent engine out service to install pop off valve and adjust valves. Any suggestions on where to start looking for a solution. Fuel mixture, timing, vacuum leaks, etc. This is the first air cooled Porsche I’ve worked on, always water cooler boxsters and 911s until now. Moderately capable at wrenching, just don’t want to turn the wrong screws quite yet!! Also car was driven 250 miles home with no problems in stop and go California heat. Happy to have a piece of air cooled heritage!!

Popping under acceleration could be you're running lean.
Try enriching mixture a 1/2 turn. Matt |
