Question E brake cable help

I am putting the brakes and rear suspension back together on my 73E finally. Last nights project was the emergency brakes including new cables (yes from our host ).

My question is where the cable shield buts up against the unibody. The unibody has the tubes sticking out and the new cables have a metal nipple that should go over the tubes (like the old ones were when I removed them).

It's not an easy fit, should I force the nipple over? With what can I apply force? The nipples are right above the heater cables and not much of a shoulder on the nipple?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Put anti-seize on the nipple, I tapped them on with a screwdriver and a hammer.
