Fuel lump issue
Hi folks, 86 911 turbo here. Posted thus in the turbo section but relevant here too…Recently finished rebuild of the engine and fuel system. Everything is new so this has nothing to do with worn parts.
Took the car out the other day, and had a fueling issue, car would buck under WOT like it was losing fuel pressure, also noticed an ever increasing loud fuel pump noise from the front. Got home and realized the fuel pump fuse had fallen out. It was intact and no sign of overheating. Replaced the fuse, yet the front fuel pump is now really loud, and I have intermittent fueling issues, at times the car won’t start, or won’t accelerate, then it’ll work like normal, pulling like a train. Could it be that the fuse falling out and the pump not running yet having fuel drawn through it could have damaged it? As i Said everything is new, I replaced the tank and made sure to put one of lens filters between tank and pump too. Thanks for the help! You mentioned that you changed out the fuel system. Did you replace the fuel distributer? A worn fuel distributer can cause uneven running and dump unburned fuel into the exhaust pipes causing popping noises. This situation happened to me. I took my '76 Euro Carrera 3.0 to a shop in Fullerton (Assee Motors) and they replaced the fuel distributer and now the car runs great.
Best of luck, Harry |
