Accessing HVAC controls wiring without removing entire center console?
Is it possible to access the HVAC controls wiring without removing the entire center console? I have a broken fader and would like to replace it but am curious if I need to remove the entire console?
Thanks! Kurt http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1658949273.jpg |
You need to at least release the back from the consul in order to access the screws holding the housing with the control knobs - I think they are on the sides.
The whole thing is a bit of a Chinese puzzle and all has to be loose in order to fully remove the back from the consul in order to get to all the screws holding the consul to the car - I just did this to install Karsten's spring, but didn't take any photos of the puzzle pieces.... |
You don't have to remove the entire console. The bracket that holds the two knobs and the fader drop down from the console. Look at the parts manual, available for free from the Porsche web site. It will show you the location of the screws.
Be VERY careful with the wires from the temp control. It is not really a wire, but a gas filled tube. If you manhandle it, and let the gas escape, the AC temp sensor will no long work, and you will have to replace the switch, through the bulkhead, down into the evaporator. So treat it like it is explosive, or very valuable. |

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1659140791.png My console has two screws on the outside that look like the hold the bracket in place but the bracket didn't seem to want to budge and given your warning about the temperature control tubing, I didn't want to persuade it. Any tricks I'm missing? |
Going completely from memory, remove the black plastic cover on the rear of the console. And there should be a small screw on each side of console. Remove those and the piece with the knobs drop down some. Just be careful with the wires from the rear. The fader roller should be very accessible.
