Before I install my 3.6….

I’ll be installing a 3.6 into my 3.2 as part of “Project Karl”

The engine came from a reputable source. It has 25k miles on it, 1997 VRAM. The donor car suffered an interior fire. DME works and looks Ok. DME harness need some repairs and freshening up which I am doing now.

The engine is on a stand in my garage at this time. The body work is nearing completion and will be painted in August / September. So I have a little time to focus on the engine before I install it.

I am replacing the engine harness since it’s a cheap repair with OEM parts due to the “repair harness” part number (thanks pelican).

So what would you do with the engine? Are there some things I should look at or should I take it to a reputable shop and have them go through everything? What can I expect them to find in a 25 year old engine with 25k miles? Am I opening a can of worms?

Thanks! Sean

Were it me, I would take it to a shop that knows 911 air-cooled motors and have them give it a once over. Check all the usual problematic areas, replace vacuum lines, plugs, etc. If they have an engine stand where they can fire it up and check for everything, adjust everything, that would be even better. If there is a leak somewhere, now is the time to address it.

All of the above plus, a front mounted oil cooler, or another cooler on the drivers side in series with the cooler in front of the one on the passenger side. You'll need a extra oil cooler with the extra horse power.

You will definitely nbeed a second oil cooler, front mount in the spoiler is the most efficient, adding a second on the drivers side has also been done

decide if you want to keep A/C or not, if not use a non A/C console or cu t the A/C stand off the stock one

RS single sheave pulley, RS non A/C console

heat can be an issue. I used a 964 heat crossover and some custom headers w/ 964 heat in and 911 heat out. stock RS platic or aftermarket heat down pipe,

air filter housing fits if the cover is resected

oil tends to collect in the low points of the intake, pull the actuator to check

check all the vacuum connections

the external oil seals for the tensioner bridges need to be periodically refreshed as do valve cover gaskets

oil temp and pressure senders will need to be matched to the gauges, unfortunately the sensors can have different thread patterns which complicates swapping them out, the pressure sensor is worst

Get access to the three fuel hoses associated with the fuel regulator, take them loose and see if the ferrules can spin on the hoses. Replace hoses if the ferrule spins.
