Hello!

My car also came originally in Guards red with Lobster red leather interior. The interior is swapped to a black one and I am in the same situation: Looking for Lobster

Here is what I have as an example:

I think the car would look awsome with Lobster inside:

We need to start a thread "show your lobster"

I too am looking for lobster. My car 87targa is silver with black int that has seen better days. Don't get me wrong the only thing that shows wear are the seats. All the rest is perfect. BUT, lobster and silver is just dead sexy IMHO. I'm doing the audio install at the same time. So, if you guys have any links for places to get lobster parts post em up....

cheers,
Scott

I find that all black interiors with the red door panels and seats look really sharp.

I've got these red pieces from an '87. They're a little dirty in the pics but they are in very good shape and will clean up nicely. Let me know if any of you need them (though I can probably only ship them in the USA).

SCOTT,

These panels look like CAN-CAN and not Lobster, or
is it just my computer making it look as so?

How much for the center console?

cheers, and have a great weekend

For what it's worth, Lobster Red was used up through 1978, Light Red was used in 1978, 1979 and 1980, Can Can Red was used from 1981 through 1986 and Lipstick (also called Plum) Red was introduced in 1987.

I've never compared Light Red, Can Can Red and Lipstick Red side-by-side to see how different they are but you can't see much, if any, difference, in the color sample chips in the factory sample books. Lobster Red was definitely different.

I have an '86 with Can Can Red and the color varies from a very bright red to a very dark, blood red, depending upon whether it is in sunlight or shadow.

The absolute best color combination for lobster interior was in Rochester,NY was a bronze exterior color with the lobster interior. It didnt have the ooow, orange interior....

Lobster was found in the mid to late 70s and early 80 Sc's...Porsche changed to can can red or lipstick red interior for the Carreras. I become obessed with the lobster red a few years back, to me can can red is nice but it doesn't compare to the lobster color

Frank,

Check my post above. Can Can red was introduced halfway through the SC production run and Lobster red's last year was 1978.

OK, I've got a question for you guys......

Several months ago I called and got a bag full of samples of red
int that came in the 911 from Sierra Madre (Jorge is a super nice
guy) and they were sent right out. After looking at the all the
samples without a doubt Lobster was the easiest on the eyes.
To me anyway.

So, my question is......

I'm going to change out my aged black interior for Lobster. In
terms of resale and not being correct do you guys think it will
all together kill my resale, not that I'm in the market for selling.
What I am looking at changing is the seat covers, carpet, flat
portions of the door skins, rear panels except for the back
deck, and small trim pieces under the windows. The rear seat
will be coming out. I'll be keeping all the original parts. IMHO
I would think that the resale would increase, because it is a
rather stellar color combo. I'm most worried that it will decrease
my resale / value.

There seems to be some confusion, or maybe I'm confused. I'm using The 911 Red Book and Adrian Streather's 911SC The Essential Companion as references. There are only two interior reds mentioned in each of these books during the SC years. The Red Book has "light red" and "red." Streather says "light red" and "can-can red." For 1977, the Red Book also says "red" and "light red." No mention of any "lobster red." In 1977 and 1978 Porsche offered "lobster" for the interior. "Lobster" is a variegated orange color. See Joe Payne's post. That's "lobster." It would not be mistaken for red. Where does "lobster red" come from? Do any sources mention it?

My 1978 911 is continental orange with lobster interior. Here are more pics of a lobster interior, but I'm not sure if this is what seben is looking for.

Lobster was what Porsche called the color. We have added on the "red" which may be the part that is confusing. Lobster isn't really red, as you describe. It's actually closer to Cork, than red. I guess people use the terms too loosely, or maybe they are not aware of the differences and they lump all of the "red" colors together.

I have made a correction to my post number 9, above, to show that Lobster and Light Red overlapped one year, in 1978. Lobster was a standard leather color and Light Red was what Porsche called a special leather color. The difference was that the special leather colors included leather over more surfaces than the standard leather colors and they tended to be stronger colors.

Your interior looks to be the leatherette version, which explains the "variegated look." The leather version of that color tends to have a more even color appearance.

I have used a factory paint/interior sample book for reference. The Red Book isn't bad but I don't like Streather's books, as they seem to have too many errors in them.
