It's a 911L coupe, #5443 of 5449 made.

Actually, #443 of 449 made for the North American market. The Luxe model was sort of a 911S trim but without the S engine; which was not available for North America. Need the Kardex?

rabs, are you sure the fourth digit is "0" and not "1"?

IMHO this VIN decodes as a Karmann-built "S" but I don't think those were ever built...

Another 1968 911 mystery

Would love some help decoding 11835189. The Stuttcars VIN decoder says it is a 1968 911 S, but the powertrain is not original. I read somewhere that S models were not imported into the U.S. in 68 because of smog requirements, so Porsche NA is no help. And I'm unsure how to access the Kardex. Any suggestions about how to find info on this car's origin, build date and original options would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance!

The 11835xxx series is an ordinary 911 coupe built by Karmann; yours is # 189 of 742
