A/C and Third Brake Light Help Needed - 87 911
 

It's hot as hades down in Texas and for some reason my R134 a/c has stopped working. I drove it probably a month ago or so with no issues and the next time out I noticed the fan will not even turn on when I turn the climate control fan knob underneath the dash. Also noticed the drivers window does not come down and the power adjustments on the seat also do not work. I've read this may be common b/c they're on the same fuse. I checked all the fuses and every one looks in order. I know fuse #2 two (25 amp) is the a/c fuse and I replaced but notice there are no wires connected to that fuse.

Other troubleshooting includes changing the relay next to the compressor. The clutch does not enagage. Like I said there is zero air coming out when I turn the knob. Would appreciate some guidance or where else to check (under the seat maybe?)

Next, I've had some issues passing Texas inspections b/c of the lack of a third brake light. I'd like to wire some LEDs or something at top of the rear window or on the outside but I have no idea how to do this and can't find much on the internet with the proper steps. I have something wired up there but it looks like maybe the window defroster. Any thoughts on how to wire this up?

Possibly:

a/c has stopped working, because someone disconnected #2 fuse wires
because power adjustments on the seat also do not work, because
seat power adjust switches shot,

get a vehicle wire schematic
test seat switches and replace,
fix the wire issue on fuse 2,
and continue the journey

Can't be wires to fuse 2 because a/c was working just fine a month or so ago and I haven't touched anything in the fuse box between then and it not working.

The factory default circuit for the AC has traditionally been for nearly 19+ years: fuse #2.

Okay, so know you have a new spare fuse holder.

In the mean time get yourself a wire schematic for your year car. Study it. If you can't read the schematic get a friend to help you.

Locate the primary power wire at the primary AC relay located in the smuggler's box.
Trace it back to its power source. It should be fuse #2. Since its not its probably because the fuse kept popping because of the seat electric switch for the motors.

Or, leave everything the way it is, like a unicorn.

Zero chance I leave as is b/c it's undrivable in Texas when it's 105 for 2 months straight. I do actually have a full shop manual and schematic that I've already looked at but anything electrical related, apart from replacing obviously burnt up fuses is not my forte so was looking for some more guidance.

How about a high mounted third brake light. Has anyone done that before?

You should find a plug near the factory brake light location. The 87 coupe & targa have the 3rd brake lights mounted in the lower portion of the rear window. Cab's used a snorkel brake light on the engine lid/spoiler.

Third brake light?

Not sure what you have wired up to your rear window now, but it’s not defrost. Those wires enter at the lower left of the rear window. Maybe an old cell phone antenna? You’ll need to follow that wire.
