Tires For my 1974 Targa

Bring back grandfather’s 1974 Targa from a long hibernation is going well so far, as we wrap things up I need a good set of tires for the Fuchs wheels, think they are 6X15’s.
Was looking at Tire Rack site and the Vredstein tires caught my attention, the
Sprint + in 195/60/15 and the Hitrac all season in the same size. Can I go any larger with these rims ? Like 205/55/15, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Depends on the height of the car, if your fenders are rolled, and what your camber is.

I was able to get 205/50/16 to fit under my lowered 77 but the fenders were rolled and I had -1.5 degree of camber on the rear.

I now have 195/65/15 riken raptors and they fit fine- I could use a spacer to push them a bit out but functionally they’re great riding tires and look good too.

No advice on tires (I'm looking too). Beautiful car - looks like mine. What is the manufacturing date on the door jamb? Is that a hardshell top?

Depends on your budget, but that car is so nice that it would be nice to put some Pirelli CN36's in the original size 185/60 VR15 from coker tire.
You really don't need bigger tires, unless you add more power.

Last year I was able to get a set of Vredestein Sportrac S for my 77 911S - they are mounted on the original Fuchs 15" - I am very happy with these tires, the grip is very good and not much noise

I ended up ordering Vredstein Hitrac all season in 195/60/15, highly recommended by Tire Rack, these tires are on backorder and won't see them until end of August.

I ran 205/55-15 on my 1973 with the same tub as yours with no issues. Worked fine but the Speedo read high and odo read low.

Correct sizes are:
165-15
185/70-15
195/65-15
205/60-15

To get decent (ie good for Autocross and HPDE) tires, I ended up getting a set of 16x6 Fuchs with 205/55-16 Toyo R1R’s. Ran a set of Continental ExtremeContact Sports in these rims prior to the Toyos.

HarryD is correct. Yokohama Advan Fleva V701 in 205/55-15 works as I couldn’t find a reasonably priced performance tire in 205/60 for my 15x7 wheels (with fact backspacing). Narrow body ‘76.

I've had good luck with these on both 911s and 356's. A tiny bit "short" in the 195, and just a tiny bit "tall" in the 205. They ride well and are quiet. Handling is good when cold but they get a little squishy when hot, so not really a "performance" tire. But more than adequate for highway driving and the occasional twisty road. They wear quicker than some, but most tires on vintage porsches age out before they wear out. They are cheap.
