I got a 1986 Porsche carrera and recently at a normal traffic stop I could not engage my forward gear to proceed I tried to put it in different gears and it was stuck in revers when I had it in forward the engine died everytime I was able to push my car of the road to a safe place and waited for Tripple a to show up,while waiting I played with the clutch and engaged the gears and behold everything worked, I was able to drive home with no problem, does anyone know what happend? I haven,t been able yet to take to a proper repair shop . Thanks

take a look at your shifter bushings. It sounds like they need replacing. Two under the shifter, and one at the back in the tunnel.

Do you know if it has had previous transmission work ? The only way it can get stuck in 2 gears at the same time is if the lockout “bullet pin” is not positioned correctly in the bore. This can be checked by removing the the steel mushroom head plug on the side of the gearbox and if the lockout pin is visible above the shift shaft it was improperly positioned the last time the box was disassembled and will require disassembly to correctly reposition.

If the back seat swivel bushings are gone, you can get hung up.
