Another UPS f-up.
I ordered a window regulator for pelican last week for my 76. I was driving past my mail box yesterday and what do I see laying on the ground, IN THE RAIN! My freakin regulator. No harm was done to the part but man what if it was an interior piece. This was NOT Pelicans fault. But they might want to look into it.

Send this to Wayne, and always request "signature required" on all shipments. This way they have to hand it to you in person.

It might be best to talk to the driver of your route. I realize you shouldn't have to do this but it will be to your benefit in the future.
After a couple of friendly conversations my driver bends over backwards to put packages in a safe place.

Since I order a lot on line and some of the package are usually very heavy, I always give my UPS a little something for Christmas, service for me is always great and he always say hi when he see me walking around the neighborhood. After all I always tip for good service. Last edited by ruf-porsche; 05-28-2003 at 02:01 PM.. |

I also talked to the guy in brown shorts, now when he comes by he opens by side gate and put the package on my back porch nice and covered up and safe from onlookers and the elements.

It was hot as hell last week and when the driver came around I realized he was sweating like crazy and panting heavily while he handed me a couple of PS2 games I'd won on ebay. Anyhow, I asked him if he wanted a cold one and he just shrugged. So I grabbed a brew outta the fridge, handed it to him and he looked like he had just won the lottery or something. I feel for you guys who have lousy UPS guys, really makes buying stuff online a pain in the ass. We have two pillars that hold up our front porch and my UPS guy always puts the package behind one of them, nice guy and always swings by to deliver my packages late in the day if he has to.

It's really the luck of the draw. We're actually going to be moving to a carrier-independent model here at Pelican, so you might see some changes (for the much, much better)...

I would love to throw the guy a few bucks, but unfortunatly some of us work 8-11 hr days and don't get to greet him at the mail box. I would think common sense would tell you not to throw a package next to the street. It could have been worse and I would be on the phone blaming Wayne for something UPS lost.

Sales Tax
And another thing Wayne why is the sales tax so high. Do you have to use L.A.'s sales tax because down here in San Diego it is only 7.75% and I thought that was state wide. But then we live in Comunistornia I mean California.

I'm lucky that my ups guys lives around the corner from me and he's a fellow aircooled car guy. Always has to see what project I'm up to when he comes by.
Wayne - what ever you do, please don't use fed ex ground, their guys around here couldn't find their own mothers houses

Again it's the luck of the draw; if we're there in the garage our UPS driver pokes his head in and says here's another Porsche part and checks up on the projects. If we're not there, the packages are inside the porch or tucked near our sliding glass door as far out of the weather as they can be put. Jim

I third the FedEx ground comments. Cheap but slow and rough on packages.
Quote: "their guys around here couldn't find their own mothers houses" They called a person I was delivering a computer to 4 times (read 1 call per day) because they couldn't find the house. It was finally delivered 5 days late and smashed. As for collecting on the insurance....That's another thread.

Might as well make it a 4th on FedEx ground. Refuse to use them but the shippers like them as they are cheaper... and it shows!

Fed X ground lost a digital camera I had won on an E bay auction, so I spent a fare amount of time at the Fed X depot ( I needed it for a vacation. When I found that they had lost it I just went to Best Buy in frustration. The found it 4 weeks later.) Come to find out the ground trucks are franchises and are owned either by the driver or a franchisee!

As I sat at the depot they had a great deal of information on their bulletin board about this very fact. It discussed every thing from their insurance to the cleanliness of their vehicles.

The UPS drivers are a mixed bunch. The new ones get their routes mixed up, their package cars stuffed to the ceiling, and have to deal with all kinds of devious mismanagment.
After 10 years they get friendly and have waxy buildup in the ears. As a former sorter and mech, you wouldn't believe the junk they are supposed to drive and park in the hills. Some of those clutches are as hard as a rock. If you can get the centers number, have them message the driver for re-delivery when you get home. For those with houses, it might be worthwhile to build a big box on the side with an open lock on it. |

My UPS guy has a 944 but I don't hold that against him. He leaves the boxes on the porch when I am out and shoots the breeze with me if he is ahead of schedule when I am home.
