Headlight attachment

On my trip to Monterey and have had a malfuklety. I had a shop swap headlights for me and they apparently had some difficulties with the old body attachment points. Headlight has now come adrift from the body.

At the bottom I believe there is a tab that is the attachment point which I think is part of the body. That tab is now attached to the light not the body. Does someone have a photo of the headlight bucket with all appropriate mounting points. Body is 1969.

With pics. I can’t picture the stock connection. I’ve scuffed both the headlight bucket and the offending tab. Does the community think JB Weld is the answer before I put it on?

That is the only fastened structural point for the light assembly, which is rather heavy. It should be welded. Maybe even have a piece of "angle iron" bent at the correct angle as reinforcement, drilled and tapped for the securing screw.

Thank you for the advice. Agree with the importance of the mount. Like the drill the joke and spot weld advise. Need to find the right shop. Joe at Classic Coach Works in Monterey has helped in the past. Hope he can take the time this week.

I replaced one of the headlight buckets in my 69 912 a few years ago. Chrome sugar scoop clips to the bucket on the top and around the sides down towards the bottom. The single screw fits into a tapped bracket in the bottom of the bucket. The only rubber seal I could find to work around the perimeter of the bucket and the edge of the sugar scoop was the thin rubber seal from International Mercantile. The later cars that use the the thick foam type seal wouldn't work. Too thick. And getting that sugar scoop on to the bucket is a bump with the palm of your hand affair.

Quick with the welder - you don't want to crank too much heat to avoid damaging the visible paint. I would back it with copper heat sink if you can.

Welding the bracket back on is certainly the right approach.

If you can access the underside of the bucket (I think you can?) you can likely bolt it back on as well.

Fixed. Found MJ Welding in Paso Robles. Shout out to Matt the owner who welded the tab back for $40. I threw a little more for being available, detail focused and speedy. Just need a new lens now since the other one was in pieces.

Thank you group for dissuading me from JB Weld. When I get home need to clean things up and hit it with a lick of paint.

What welding method was used for this task? That will be helpful for others to know, esp. regarding paint protection.
