Loa Angeles Porsche Dealer late 80s
Hi there, looking for some direction as my searches come back empty.
I am looking to clarify the delivery dealership of my 1988 Carrera. It was a Factory delivery but original owner was from Newport Beach. Warranty book has initial maintenance stamps from Dealership #240 Los Angeles Porsche. Does anyone know if this is the current downtown LA dealership? Possibly a defunct or old dealership lost to history? Cards on the table I want to buy a period license plate frame for the car, so I am trying to refine my search. I appreciate any direction you experts can provide. Jonathan |

Downtown Porsche still exists, Not from CA myself but first call would be that LA dealer service dept and ask like suggested, maybe get a search lead for them.
Not sure how they operate if when they close up, move or sold off if dealer number changes or if consolidated by another dealer. Could be new ownership of an old dealer with a name change, but generally most corporate store id numbers stays the same such as with national retail stores. Some dealerships are not on the list posted on the 912BBS site, but it is quite comprehensive and interesting to say the least, thanks for that link, good info. Maybe Porsche archive info or PCA could clarify the number sequence in your warranty book to find the selling dealership. What caught my attention to your post was I too wanted historic provenance for my 911 and thought a license plate frame would be worth having since I have the original blue plate, but dealer is long gone from San Diego area. For what it’s worth, heres my Warranty Book stamp. Maybe post yours? Good luck with your search! ![]() |

Thank you for the list winders.
I had been through that dealer list from the 60's before a year or so ago but I couldn't locate it again. I am still facing contradicting information: Original Owner is listed as living in Newport Beach. It was Tourist delivery car, and I am trying to determine the importing Dealer distributor. Sticker under the hood says 911 340, which indicates a PCA Midwest Zone Import (911), but the 340 does not correspond to a listed dealer # anywhere in the US. Initial Servicing took place at (according to the ink stamp) Porsche Dealer # 0240 Los Angeles CA. (original Owner was from Newport Beach) This dealer number does not correspond to any dealer number in the US, and definitely does not match: Downtown LA Porsche (#422/144) Chick Iverson (#422/146) The dealer # does seem to align with an Ottawa Canada distributor Shane Distribution (#999/240), which is interesting but likely a dead end as the stamp in the maintenance book clearly indicates the servicing was in Los Angeles CA. I considered and rejected the idea that the Ottawa dealer number (from the 60's) was possibly re-issued to an LA area dealer? What started out a half hearted search to source an original license plate frame from the original dealer has turned in to complete mystery. I appreciate the feedback - looks like more questions than answers at this point. I need to think about a new approach- onwards. Jonathan |

While searching the eBay for a service manual, I came across this photo of a partial list from a ‘dealer locator’ pamphlet offered for sale, shows some now defunct Porsche dealerships from that era.

Intriguing since dealer numbers seem to have been 3 digit numbers, not 4....

I wondered the same thing about my car and, on advice of another user, emailed PCNA. It took a few days but eventually got a response.
In my case, I created an account/profile on the Porsche website and added my car to it. I think you’re required to verify ownership by providing copy of driver license and insurance card (with VIN) or title, but once that’s done you can then contact PCNA through the portal. My 83 911 was originally sold by The Collection in Miami, then somehow ended up at a Ford dealer a year later in Memphis (I have the window sticker from when it sold the second time). Good luck with your search! |

Although mysteriously missing from the Porsche Dealer booklet, Westwood Porsche +Audi, established early 1970's at *Veteran & Santa Monica Blvd. was #240
*Today the home of Beverly Hills Porsche (although many miles west of BH !). My friend and factory trained mechanic Rick worked there, I sourced most of my Dealer parts there and still in touch with several guys from the service dept. Rick actually does meticulous electrical + trouble shooting on Porsches in current times; we had lunch today and he confirmed dealer #240. |

I remember when Rusnak on Colorado Blvd in Pasadena was Peter Satori’s. What an amazing emporium that was.

Beverly Hills P+A original building (today BH historical landmark building) on Wilshire Blvd. with its clock tower, still has its beautiful "Bones" to it. It was a grocery market in the 20's, then Estes Zipper sports cars until BH P+A took it over. My friend Dieter W. worked there (Zipper) and kept that old school Clock running for years!

When the move was made (Bev Hills Porsche) to the former Westwood P+A property...they surgically removed the Porsche Crest and left the architectural pillar with its Ghost logo outline. I took this pic and framed the (now frozen) clock in its tower. New projects for this property are lined up...but in red tape I'm sure.
