Which is the best route, buying new seats or recovering the old ripped ones. Anyone have a good source for original type new seats or new skins?

I had my seats recovered in new leather. They turned out great, but I wish I had the padding replaced as well. In hindsight I would have just bought a set of SRD's or something similar; it would have been cheaper and a better seat. I've seen very nice seats at swap meets going for a few hundred bucks too, good for putting the car back to original if you are inclined.
Good luck |

I've looked at this a little, and after checking into the cost of leather replacement kits, I'd just opt for a new Cobra seat or something. After shipping, still cheaper per seat than a quality recovering in leather...and in my opinion the Porsche seats didn't get all that great until the electrics in the '86 and on cars when the bolstering got enlarged...

World Upholstry & Trim out of Santa Paula, CA is a good source. Factory skins and colors. Anyone else used them?

You must have the internal padding done, the seat bottom as a minimum and don't scrimp on the springs either.
A recovered seat looks great but the confort and snuggability of a restructured seat cannot be beat. It's like a new suspension on a car with a repaint - you can tell which was money best spent! John
