Ignition switch modification questions
I have a used ignition switch that isn’t working correctly. The key does not rotate correctly, and I’m not sure if the problem is mechanically, electrical or both.
Is the single slot in the electrical part correct or should it be a crossed slot? Is the single blade in the mechanical part correct? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1660849808.jpg This internal piece appears to have been modified and it’s not clocked correctly. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1660849900.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1660849900.jpg I put it in my car for a second and things got hot, and wouldn’t engage the starter. Pulled it right out and did the autopsy to reveal the modification. The cars original switch works as normal and no fuses blown. |
The two I have seen are crossed, but they could be different over the years. This one here is part number 911.613.011.06
It has the typical break in the cross. When this happens you may or may not be able to turn the car on and more than likely will not be able to engage the start. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1660898035.jpg |
Thanks, that’s what’s happening. I’m wondering where to find that part for replacement.

Unfortunately I have not found that part by itself. You'll need to buy another keyed ignition. $200 is a reasonable price.

Ok, well that’s probably all there is to that then. The good news is that I purchased this part used and the seller provided a refund. I’ll keep it on the shelf for now. The electrical part may be good, not sure. The keyed cylinder is sloppy but works so it’s worth keeping on hand.

I can't remember if the back part that the cross goes into is separate from the switch or they are as one unit. Not a bad idea to keep it around, but the next used one you pickup should have the cross in the switch that matches my pic.
