More Fuel Accumulator Questions

My car is a 77 but the engine is from a 1980 SC and has been enlarged with 98mm pistons.

I want to replace my fuel accumulator, which looks like it is similar to the 2.7L version, since there is no lower return line. However, there is a port there with a nut on it, but the bottom of the port is closed off. I'm thinking I should replace the existing with one from a 1980, which would have the open lower port and return line.

If I go with the correct version, what do I need in addition to the accumulator? Can someone direct me to the part number for the lower line and to where it returns? Does it go back through the underside of the chassis to the fuel tank? Right now it looks like I don't have that line or any connection to the tunnel line.

Is there actually some advantage to having the return line? Or can I stay with my original configuration? If I stay with the original config, should I get a 77 non return version or go with an 80 version and plug the lower port as it is now?

Thanks.

Either should work from what I’ve read. The two top hard lines return to and from the gas tank. My 77 has the bottom line T-fitting and braided hose attached but not sure where it leads, it’s not band clamped so its not under pressure like the two top supply lines. The bottom line I believe is an overflow should gas get past the diaphragm. I really need to get busy replacing these lines !

Here’s an old link that explains FA function and testing -

Thank you EC900!

After seeing your pic I went back and checked the bottom of the accumulator and I have the same configuration as you. I missed the line off to the side of the bottom port in the darkness. I should have removed the heating duct.

So it looks like I just need the 1980 accumulator after all.
