My car has been driving me nuts with its 2000 RPM hanging idle. A blip of the throttle would bring it down sometimes, but frequently it would just sit nailed to 2000 RPM or 1200 RPM. This problem was always worse when it the engine was very hot. Joeaksa swapped his idle contoller for mine with no change. My next step was going to be to test/change the head temp sensor.
Well, a few days ago my neighbor Jeff (CUL8R) called and said he saw something in Bentley that he thought we should check. He suggested we test my idle position switch (Bentley P. 240-20). It's a very easy test using a meter to test continuity on an easy to reach plug. It's just above the WOT switch. Jeff hooked up the meter - BEEP. That's good. Open the throttle and the beep is gone. That's good. Close the throttle and.... Hmmm. Where's the BEEP? He opened and closed the throttle and eventually regained continuity. Jeff checked this several times and there was obviously a problem in that the switch was not closing every time the throttle was closed. Neither of us had time to mess with if further yesterday. This morning I played with it some more and discovered that a very slight lifting of the throttle would close the stitch. A few turns of the screw that adjusts the pressure on the switch and I got continuity every time I closed the throttle. I just got back from a long drive to get it hot (not too hard since it's 101 degrees already) and the idle was perfect! Thanks Jeff! I owe you a pizza as well as my sanity!

Good to hear you found it after all this time! Can we watch Jeff eat the pizza and fight over the scraps?

From what I understand you don't want to get between Jeff and a pizza.

That's outstanding -- I've been mildly concerned about a hanging idle in my Carrera, too. With a page number reference in the Bentley's, I have no excuse! How do I donate to the CUL8R pizza fund?

I had a similar problem on my 3.0 . Turned out to be the Decel Valve sticking open. I pulled both the Decevl Valve and Aux Air Valve, both of which are a pain to get at, and haven't have a problem since.
