long warm start 1976/82 911S/C
1976 911S targa with 1982 3.0 engine/drive line.
engine 250,000 miles plus. cold engine starts fine and runs great. hot engine starts fine and runs great. however there is a period between recent running and totally cold where i have to crank for 30 seconds. also, leaving the car parked with the engine end in direct sunlight, hot afternoon, affects the timeframes involved. I have concluded that with the extreme mileage, the mass air flow sensor is probably unaffected by cranking, so I am trying to start with just idle/stop bolt fuel injection plus the cold start sensor injection of fuel. when cold or cooled off, the cold start sensor kicks in and off i go. when warm, long cranking period ensues. I am thinking that a higher temperature cold start valve might be available. OR maybe I put a different injector in there and operate it with a homemade "cold start/choke switch" anybody else encounter this problem, or have ideas to solve it? |

Hi Don, I can see this is your first post. Welcome =P
In your case, i am thinking your rest/residual pressures either for your control/system are out of spec, or may be the accumulator. ---- However there is really only 1 way to tackle CIS troubleshooting.... (A) do all the basic checks in the factory Porsche manual, there are a few things to go through before you get anywhere near point (B) (B) check your control and system fuel pressures for warm, cold and rest/residual. Then you can have a logical thought process in terms of finding a problem. There is a test on the accumulator, but off hand I cannot remember it, but I am sure someone will point you in the right direction shortly. |
