73 targa race car to road car build series on Youtube

Hey guys, I started this viper green targa project. Here is a link to my YouTube channel. I just posted part 1 of this build series. If anyone wants to follow along and help me navigate this, I'm going to be posting updates, questions, etc in this thread. If you care to see the videos, you can obviously subscribe to the channel, but here is where I hope to get some help, as always lol.

I’m following this build like a hawk.
Please document as much as possible when you weld the bar back in…
I’m in the same boat as you but mine was converted to a cab and want to convert it back to a targa.

I have the bar but haven’t been able to find someone that will weld it in for me, even with all the measurements provided done by speed metal

Yours will be a little different than mine wasn’t converted to a cab. I’ll document this a lot. Here and on my YouTube channel. Hopefully I’ll have a lot more done in the next couple weeks.

Thanks for posting those DPmulvan

This morning, I opened up the metal to see if my structural hoop was there. Good news, it’s there. Bad news. There’s some rot so I need to open up a little more. The biggest pain looks like it will be where it’s eaten away between the inner wheel well and where structural hoop is. It’s a few inches of body that needs to be repaired. Tight spot.

I think I need to step back and reassess. I'll need to cut the structural hoop down a few inches below where that has some rot. That will give me access (to the part of the body between the inner wheel well and the structural hoop). I'm sure I'll need to open up the interior metal more to make room so I can weld in the structural hoop and the other piece that has rot..I was hoping this was not the case..but could be worse?? lol

There’s an inner upper fender piece available might want to check restoration design. Where is your hoop? Put up a photo of the ends.

Mine is rotted, this thing is going in the trash. I'll be getting a "new" hoop.

Calling shops here in socal to try and get estimates on how long it will take, and prices to get the car on a bench and pulled straight.

That’s a pretty generous cut compared to mine

We’ve got different things going on. Someone welded a small piece of metal over to make this a roadster. Same thing with my doors. I cut out the piece they welded in to cover the space where the structural hoop would have been

The targa is making some progress. Decided to have Perfect Lines Restoration do the metal work. Alex and Joel were nice enough to let me disassemble to the car at their shop. Video link below
