Lost a screw
Hi all. I lost the screw in the center of the sunroof transmission on my ‘74 911. It’s the black screw with a sort of brass washer (?) around it in the picture below.
First, will the thing work without the screw? Second, what does it do? Third, where do I get a replacement? Can anyone help, please? Thanks.

You need it, pal.
In the E 911 73 Katalog it's "TRANSMISSION" i.e gearbox. The part number is 911 564 601 00. The lost item is probably the shaft. The "brass" part is probably a bearing. Can you put up some pix of the backside and top?

Dunno
Hmmm. I don’t think is a shaft and bearing. This is the screw that you remove to screw in the hand crank in its place. Dunno, though...

Just screw the crank in. It will work. The missing screw is really just a plug protecting the threads on mine. I can actually close (or is it open?) the sunroof manually with a large screw driver.

Oh, me too. But my question is, will the electric motor move the roof panel without the screw in? My motor is spinning, but the roof isn’t moving. I am trying to figure out if i need just a screw or a new clutch. Sorry, I should have explained my problem first!

Revisiting this old thread. I need to manually close my sunroof 4-5". (I never open it but tried to the other day. Motor doesn't seem to open or close it now.) I can't get the screw in question out. I've tried PB Blaster but it doesn't get to the actual threads. I don't want to use heat up there as I'm accessing it through th zipper. Any ideas?

Hi. I don’t remember how I resolved this question. Given your issue and that you can’t use heat near the roof liner, my suggestion is that you remove the transmission from the car, then work on it while it is off the car. It’ll be easier that way. There are two machine screws to the sides of screw in question. That hold it in place. I hope this is helpful to you.

Oh, that’s good news. I thought you couldn’t get it off without removing the big screw first.
