Need help locating under dash AC vent bezels
Trying to locate the vent bezels for this unusual under dash AC system from a 1976 911S. It is a dealer installed unit from So. Cal. but I do not know the brand.
The most unusual feature is that it has four vents, rather than six. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1662859653.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1662859681.jpg I have four of the inner vent portion, but three of the bezels have cracked. These are also unusual in that they are square, and not rounded bezels. The openings appear to be 1" x 5.5". http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1662859712.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1662859724.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1662859739.jpg I am also looking to replace this knob http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1662859776.jpg Any leads would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. |
Try an auto a/c parts distributor. They have most sizes
|
Hmmm, I had not thought of that. I wonder if they still have access to 45 year old designs?
|
Those are standard sizes, I bought some a while back. Just pop them in.
They won't be identical design, but same size. |
I have done some digging and have had very limited success so far. Do you happen to recall where you got yours?

I had a VPC dealer installed AC in my 77, notably a one-piece under dash vent console with control knobs side by side. Yours may be a two-piece console Behr system, control knobs either side of the ashtray.
I had replacement louvres that fix tightly but didn’t fill in the entire opening. Appx outside dimension is 4-3/4”. You can try Griffiths for these replacement louvres… https://griffiths.com/products/porsche/air-conditioning/911-930/vents/ The control knobs might be generic fitment, mine are packed away so it depends on the stem, an appliance parts supply may be a likely source. Here’s what the vent louvres look like: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1662938457.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1662938485.jpg |
Thanks for the lead, but those appear a bit narrower than mine since my opening is 5.5 inches. I suppose if worst came to worst I could fabricate some adapters/sleeves to fit these smaller vents into the openings.
|
Just a tad narrower, enough to see gaps. The originals fit with small posts into holes, and covered the openings and a 1/8” wider to cover up the gap. My guess these broke off and vents just fell out. My opening was 4-3/4”, original louvre outer dimension is 4-15/16” x 1-9/16”. Smaller new replacement outer dim. is
4-3/4 x 1-9/16”. My under dash ac console was cracked and warped, took it apart to fix it and will need to be recovered with new vinyl. Since I deleted the non-working AC, my under dash console is merely for looks, but I think a new replacement knee pad might be better and cheaper route. The amount of work I’ve done to this console so far has not produced much satisfaction, as I wonder how the replacement vents will fit cleanly and snug if an upholstery shop covers it with thinner vinyl. That said, if you’re handy, you could use some black abs glue to fit/form/replace new vent faces that are broken…if you still have the louvres. If replacing with new ones, I think making a cover plate out of Kydex would work to fill in the gap left by the smaller vent louvre assembly. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1663001613.jpg |
I got my vents at Chisenhall in San Antonio. They specialize in custom A/C, so they have various sizes available.
The unit by the OP is not a VPC or Behr unit. Might be Breezaire or other aftermarket unit from the era. |
There is a great deal on a better set of vents in the classified area.

Yes.

Chisenhall does not have a website for some reason. Try Vintage Air I imagine it is the same family.
